Sondra Steiner


Sondra Steiner grew up in Bucks County Pennsylvania where she started her early training at the Budzyinski Studios of Ballet under the direction of Marilyn Budzyinski. Every summer, Sondra was accepted via scholarship to summer intensive programs such as the Boston Ballet, Richmond Ballet, BalletMet, Joffrey Ballet, Nashville Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, and the Central Pa Youth Ballet. Sondra had the honor of being selected to travel abroad and perform with The Hungarian Ballet Academy in Budapest Hungry. Sondra was chosen to perform in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics closing ceremonies. Sondra continued professionally, training with The Pennsylvania Ballet.
Sondra attended college at The North Carolina School of the Arts where she majored in Dance. Following the North Carolina School of the Arts, Sondra toured as a principal dancer with Ballet Theater of Pennsylvania and also was a principal dancer with the Dance Theatre of Pennsylvania. Sondra has studied and worked with teachers such as
Melissa Hayden, Gloria Govrin, Trinette Singleton, Christopher d’Amboise, Jacques d’Amboise, David Howard, Fernando Bujones, Roy Kaiser and Barbara Sandonato. Sondra’s past repertoire includes principal, soloist and corps roles in the classical ballets Paquita, Coppelia, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, La Fille Mal Gardee, Dracula, Nutcracker, La Sylphide, Giselle, Petrushka, along with many other contemporary pieces. After retiring from touring, Sondra began teaching at several ballet schools and competitive dance studios in the Philadelphia area. She also was a rehearsal mistress for The Dance Theatre of Pennsylvania. Sondra now resides in Bergen County with her husband, two children and three dogs. She currently is teaching at the King Centre. She enjoys watching her daughter dance as well as watching her son play sports.
