Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer's individual style and originality, interpreting and executing moves and steps. This type of dancing is energetic and fun. Consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps, and quick turns. To excel in jazz, dancers need a background in ballet, as it encourages grace and balance. The styles you learn in Jazz are Theater Jazz, Concert Jazz, Stylized Jazz, Contemporary and Lyrical.

Serving dance families across Bergen and Passaic County, Mahwah, Wanaque, Ramsey, Franklin Lakes, Oakland, Wyckoff, Ridgewood, Pompton Lakes and the surrounding North Jersey communities.

Program levels

Curriculum & placement

All ages, leveled placement. Placement is determined by our artistic faculty.

Level I

Introduction to basic jazz technique introduces fun, energetic style of dance including work on basic positions, strengthening movements, flexibility, and progressions across the floor.

Level II

Continues lessons from basic jazz classes. More challenging steps are introduced as well as work in different styles of jazz such as musical theatre and lyrical. Continues lessons from Level 1 with an emphasis on more difficult jumps and turns alone and in combination. More emphasis is placed on proper execution and style and awareness of body alignment.

Levels III, IIIa, IIIb

Continues lessons from Level 2 with increasingly difficult steps and combinations. Cleaning technique is a continued focus along with style, stamina, and body awareness, using all Jazz styles. Increased difficulty and speed with an emphasis on proper execution and presentation of more difficult steps. Classes include more and longer combinations in a variety of styles including contemporary and modern. Jazz Level 3 takes one class per week and Level 3A and 3B may take two classes per week.

Level IV

The most difficult level providing a full workout for body and mind. Classes emphasize technique as well as style with a focus on executing at a high performance-ready level in every style of Jazz. At this level, students take two classes per week.

TLC (Technique, Lengthening, Conditioning)

All Jazz classes Level 3A & Up will take a TLC class. This class will be a structured warm-up that follows a syllabus to focus on specific areas of technique as well as flexibility training. There will also be conditioning in order to develop well-rounded and strong dancers.
